Customer Profile: Organically Grown Company

Organically Grown Company logoIn 2007, Organically Grown Company began purchasing 100 percent Clean WindSM. Since 1982, the company has served as the largest wholesaler of organic fruits, vegetables and herbs in the Pacific Northwest. They serve natural and fine foods retailers, supermarket chains, restaurants, juicing companies, food processors and other wholesalers.

Why did Organically Grown Company decide to purchase renewable power?

The mission of Organically Grown Company is to promote health through organic agriculture as a leading sustainable organization. The move grew out asking not “Why support Clean Wind energy?” but “Does it make good business sense to continue supporting dirty fossil fuel energy?”. Organically Grown Company also understands that in addition to benefiting the company, the switch is helping the region develop energy security through the development of renewable energy.

What are some of Organically Grown Company’s other “green” initiatives?

Keeping products fresh is the name of the game for Organically Grown Company. That's why the growing company also invested in high-efficiency refrigeration equipment when it expanded its Clackamas distribution center.

High-efficiency dock seals, head seals and wall insulation, plus head pressure control valves and evaporator fan cycling controls are putting the chill on rising energy costs, saving more than $3,600 a year.

Lighting upgrades completed at the same time are also reaping energy savings by reducing heat generation inside refrigerated areas. With help from Energy Trust incentives, the payback on the refrigeration is just over one year.
