Customer Profile: Jeff Law

Jeff LawArchitect Jeff Law, and his wife, fellow architect Irene Ng, were drawn to Portland in part because of the city’s support for ecological sustainability and bicycling as they fit with their values.

Why did Jeff decide to purchase renewable power?

For Jeff, renewable power is just one part of the ecologically responsible lifestyle to which he and his wife are firmly committed. Their goal is to be fossil-fuel free. Jeff believes that the small actions of each person work together to achieve powerful results.

What are some of Jeff’s other “green” efforts?

Jeff and Irene converted their home heating system from gas to electric by installing a ground source heat pump, and replace their appliances as they wear out or as incentives and new efficiency measures warrant. Moving to a front-loading washing machine and low-flow shower heads alone has decreased their water consumption by almost half.

The couple next plans to insulate the walls and add a photovoltaic array to the roof of their Craftsman bungalow as part of their ongoing remodel efforts to the home.

Finally, both Jeff and Irene also strive to make environmental responsibility central to their architectural designs. By designing passive systems, being more climate responsive and supporting the development of renewable power options, they hope to move their industry to change as well.
