Energy Trust and PGE offer free energy saver kit

Portland area residents who get their electricity from Portland General Electric (PGE) or Pacific Power can get a free energy saver kit, through a special program co-sponsored by PGE and Energy Trust of Oregon.

According to PGE, the free kit will help reduce energy bills and includes:

• Four compact fluorescent light bulbs. New fluorescent bulbs use up to 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer than the old incandescent style light bulbs.
• A high-performance shower head, which uses 20 percent less water and can save electricity and money by reducing water-heating.
• Two faucet aerators, which add air to the water coming out of a faucet, thereby utilizing 20 percent less water.

The energy saving kit comes with free delivery, easy installation instructions and home energy-savings tips, but quantities are limited and the offer ends August 31st.

You don't have to be a homeowner to qualify for this offer, but renters will need permission from their landlords to install the energy saving devices.
